Title: Maintenance Technician, Kendallville Location

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Salary: $15.00/Hour

Work Schedule: 20 Hours/Week, Part-Time, Primarily days/afternoons; evenings and Saturdays as needed 

 

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for safely conducting general repairs and preventative maintenance activities on Library equipment, property, structures, and grounds.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance on electrical systems including changing ballasts, breakers, GFIs, and lightbulbs
  •  Conduct maintenance on HVAC systems including filter changes, coil cleanings, and general troubleshooting
  • Conduct maintenance on plumbing systems including snaking drains, replacing fixtures, and repairing leaks
  • Undertake pest control activities, including spraying insecticides
  • Clearly and proactively communicate activities, whereabouts, and maintenance status with Manager
  • Keep all appropriate personnel informed of any potential problems or emergency situations
  • Assist with grounds management, including snow and leaf removal
  • Perform drywall repair, painting, and light carpentry as necessary
  • Assist in the setup of displays and meeting rooms
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements include:

Strong interpersonal skills and additional abilities such as good verbal and written communication, technology, leadership & decision-making, critical thinking & problem solving, and time management. Commits to excellent customer service and is self-motivated and innovative. Possess valid Indiana driver’s license with a clean driving record. High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of related work experience and CPR certification or willingness to attain within 6 months.


Title: Youth Services Assistant, Kendallville Location

Reports to:  Youth Services Manager

Wage:  $15.00/hour, based on experience.

Work Schedule:  Applicant will work 20 hours/week:

  • Tuesdays
    • 12pm-8pm
  • Thursdays
    • 2pm-8pm
  • Friday
    • 11am-5pm
  • Saturday (rotate 1 or 2 Saturdays/month)
    • 9am-3pm

Job Summary: 

Are you an outgoing and customer service-oriented individual?  We are looking for a candidate to provide reference and readers’ advisory to our patrons, maintain and organize our collection daily, assist with and facilitate programs, check-in and out materials for patrons, monitor room reservations, help with displays, etc.

Excellent candidates will be able to:

  • provide exceptional customer service for all visitors
  • maintain current awareness of popular trends, authors and titles, and give patrons recommendations
  • effectively use interview skills, databases, and online search tools to assist patrons
  • offer assistance at the circulation desk as needed
  • work in a fast-paced environment as well as be able to find tasks to work on independently
  • collaborate as part of a team
  • adapt to changes and know when to follow directives or take initiative
  • multitask and prioritize responsibilities
  • develop cooperative programs between the public library and community organizations, including schools

 

Qualifications:  Candidates will need to hold a valid Indiana driver’s license.  A high school diploma is required (some college preferred), and the candidate must have a minimum of Indiana Librarian Certification LC6 or higher or be willing to obtain the required certification within a specific time frame. Basic computer skills are required, and knowledge of Microsoft Office software is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills and additional abilities such as good verbal and written communication, technology, leadership & decision-making, critical thinking & problem solving, and time management are a must. Commits to excellence and is self-motivative and innovative. Must have the ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 30 pounds, and push up to 100 pounds.
